To help hunters in their pursuit, the game offers a superhuman "Hunter Sense" that can be activated. Hunter Sense allows the player to see important details such as blood trails, resting and feeding areas, animal tracks; and it even helps pinpoint animals' locations by sound. When scoped-in for a shot, it will give information such as projected shot distance and bullet force, so you can make sure the shot is powerful enough to make the clean kill.

Interactive Online Hunter Education: Available to anyone 11 years and older. Complete the Interactive Pennsylvania Hunter-Trapper Education course to receive a hunter education certificate. The IHEA approved hunter education for students that may find an interactive format more conducive to their learning style. The cost to complete this course is $50.00.


Be a better bowhunter! Improve your skills and increase your chances for success with this voluntary training. Successful Bowhunting expands upon the National Bowhunter Education Foundation's International Bowhunter Education Program.


A training certificate recognized throughout North America is presented upon passing a written test at the end of the course. The course covers responsible bowhunting, big game anatomy and shot placement, map and compass basics, distance estimation, shooting basics and a 3-D field course, hunting methods and techniques, tree stand use and safety, and big game recovery and care. This course does not replace the Basic Hunter-Trapper Education training. All first-time hunters must successfully complete Basic Hunter-Trapper Education before purchasing a general hunting license.


Online Training: ($30) Students 16 years and older can complete this certification entirely online and print a temporary Bowhunter hunter education certificate (a permanent certificate will be mailed). Take the Pennsylvania-Approved Bowhunter Course online.

By providing hunter education to the public, the DNR will help ensure the safety of hunters throughout our state by continuing to promote ethics and fair chase, hunter responsibility and landowner relations. The safety, recruitment, and retention of hunters are important in continuing the tradition of hunting in Iowa's GREAT Outdoors!


Iowa law requires that anyone born after January 1, 1972 must be certified in hunter education before they are eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license. The minimum number of hours to complete the class is 10. Typically there is no charge for the course, unless lunch is furnished or room rental is required. Iowa recognizes hunter education certificates issued by another state and some foreign nations.


A person who is 11 years old or older may enroll in a course, but those who are 11 and successfully complete the course shall be issued a certificate which becomes valid on that person's 12th birthday. Iowa residents under the age of 12 can be issued a deer or turkey license; however, a licensed adult hunter must accompany each youth hunter. If the certificate is lost, a replacement certificate may be obtained from any ELSI vendor during regular business hours for $4.50.


Classes are typically held from March 1 - November 15 each year. Our courses are taught by volunteer instructors who are hunters so there are very few classes that take place after November 15.


The online hunter education course was designed for the busy student or working adult that cannot fit a traditional class into their schedule. The department recommends that students of the online coursework be age 16 or older.


Hunter-ed.com is authorized to provide the online hunter education coursework for Iowa and the student still needs to attend an Iowa Hunter Education Field Day class. Field day classes are limited and students will want to locate and register for a hunter education online field day class in their area, prior to completing the online course work. Upon completion of the online coursework, the student is issued a field day admission voucher which is valid for only one year. They are to print the voucher and present that voucher to the instructor on the day of their field day.

If you are 11 to 17 years of age, complete the online hunter education course work and then register for the field day portion to complete your hunter education certification. Sign up the youth course.


This course is designed for adults that have prior hunting and/or firearms handling experience. If you do not have prior hunting or firearms handling experience it is recommended that you take a traditional classroom course or attend a field day in order to receive one on one firearms handling training with a certified hunter education instructor

Iowa's only approved dual hunter education and handgun safety course that meets the training requirements per Iowa law to apply for a nonprofessional permit to carry firearms. This course covers the same general content as the traditional classroom hunter education course, but also includes expanded information on handgun safety and laws.

Bowhunter EducationThe bowhunter program is designed to teach bowhunters safe and ethical hunting techniques and to install responsible attitudes toward people, wildlife and the environment.

The NY Hunter Education course (Hunter Safety course) is required to purchase a hunting license in New York. The course covers the necessary safety techniques and responsibilities that a hunter must know when using a gun, muzzleloader, crossbow or bow to pursue wild game.


You can complete all the requirements to earn a NYS hunter education certificate online. Any New York State resident age 11 or older can take the online course. If you successfully complete the course, and pass the final exam, you will receive your NYS hunter education certificate.


1.) Standard hunter education course - Read, listen, and watch. You can read the course material or have it read to you. A number of engaging videos help you learn safe hunting practices. The cost of the course is $24.95 and can be found at hunter-ed website (leaves DEC website).


A two day hands-on program for the purpose of introducing 12-16 year olds to the basic principles of conservation, hunter education and general outdoorsmanship. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive their Hunter Education Training Certificate. This program is available each spring. The 2023 program will take place on April 15 and 16, 2023. Applications must be received by Wednesday, April 5 at 5 p.m. To apply for the program, complete the Application for Youth Conservation Program (PDF).


The NYS Bowhunter Education course is required for hunters who use a bow and arrow to hunt deer or bear. While this course is not required for hunting deer with a crossbow, or for using a bow and arrow to hunt small game or turkey, DEC encourages you to take this course to learn bow and tree stand safety techniques.


Register for a Bowhunter Education Course (leaves DEC website). You must attend the entire in-person instruction portion of the course on the date(s) and at the location indicated on the course schedule listing.


The Today's Bowhunter Manual and Bowhunter Education Homework Worksheet can be pickedup at most DEC Wildlife offices or may be available for pick up at other locations asspecified in the instructions given when you register for a course.


Students must complete required homework, attend all sessions of the course, demonstrate proper attitude and safety, and pass a final exam of 40 questions. After successful completion of the course, students will receive a Bowhunter Education Certificate of Qualification, which is required in addition to a hunting license or hunter education certificate for purchasing a first-time bowhunting privilege in New York State.


You can complete all the requirements to earn a NYS bowhunter education certificate online. Any New York State resident age 11 or older can take the online course. If you successfully complete the course, and pass the final exam, you will receive your NYS bowhunter education certificate. The cost of the course is $30.00.
