Trainz Simulator Mac Download
I have been attempting to redownload the trainz simulator Mac from the App store, it is a 6.82 GB download, and does take some time, however, it often restarts part way through the download, and has yet to complete 100%. It does appear to finish the download size at least, then begins installing, at which point it generates an error and says it failed to download and I should retry from the purchases page... I have done this at least 8 times so far... same results....
So far, no luck under a different account, I had an unused admin account that I tried, got to about 5.5 GB, download restarted at 0 again, when finally complete, bombed out exactly the same way - error message only claims failed to download, try again....
In my quest to run unsupported games on the Mac, I've tried out a few techniques with mixed results. When my son wanted to run his train simulator on an older 24" iMac, I was unable to provide him the experience. At work, I had the same limitation when we wanted to make the real-time rendering experience more portable. We have Mac laptops and mostly iPads for travel.
Just today I got an email from nVidia suggesting I download the beta version of GeForce NOW for Mac. I tried out a free to play game on Steam store and saw the performance was decent enough. With a little bit of tinkering, I was able to add a standalone 'exe' file to the Library - an Enscape Demo Project. Here are the results from running a real time architectural visualization on a Macbook Air!
Tip: If you do not want to contaminate your file system you could pass --prefix=$PWD/world or something similar to ./configure, as then everything will end up in $PWD/world and no root privileges are needed to install the simulator. But make sure to add the bin folder to your $PATH afterwards.
